Human Resources Leader at Etsy in Brooklyn, NY

Human Resources Leader

Etsy is creating the world’s most vibrant handmade marketplace. We need a Human Resources leader to help. We will consider Manager, Director, and VP level candidates.

This is a hands-on position which will be part of the core leadership team reporting directly to the CEO. This role is responsible for establishing Etsy as an exceptionally desirable place to work.

This role involves scaling our human resources team, policies, programs and services, including recruitment, selection, retention, employee relations, legal compliance, benefits and compensation administration, employee on-boarding, and training.

This position requires vision for growing an employee base at a rapid rate. Etsy is experiencing strong growth, and we expect to increase staff by 50% in the next six-to-twelve months

Responsibilities

1. Provide advice and guidance to hiring managers to ensure new hires meet the requirements of the roles and are aligned with Etsy’s culture, vision and values.
2. Partner with Etsy managers to identify opportunities to improve team members and overall team performance.
3. Oversee the daily HR function including: employee files, benefits administration, org charts, benefits questions, options grants, visa and immigration process, etc.
4. Maintain and update the employee handbook and other policies.
5. Orchestrate the company benefits’ program including the open enrollment process, yearly evaluation of benefits providers (cost, level of service, etc.)
6. Maintain and enhance fair and rewarding total compensation plan.
7. Lead development of on-boarding process for all employees.
8. Provide counsel to managers in performance management, including promotions, incentives, corrective action, terminations, pay changes and other relevant issues.
9. Investigate employee relations issues and make recommendations for corrective steps.
10. Ensure compliance with various State and Federal laws and/or agencies.
11. Further develop and improve performance management system.
12. Drive recruiting agenda to attract the best talent; recruit and onboard candidates.
13. Develop and, with Office Manager, implement programs that feed and support Etsy’s culture.

Essential Skills

1. BA degree or equivalent required, advanced degree preferred
2. HR generalist/mgmt experience with fast paced Internet or software development organizations; start up experience desired.
3. Demonstrated competence in the various HR functional areas: recruitment; compensation; employee relations; management coaching; organizational development; handling M&A.
4. Strong ability to influence people and decisions through credible, no nonsense communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Strong generalist background with ability to provide excellent business partnership.
6. Excellent project management skills.
7. Understanding of federal and multi state employment related regulations.
8. Hands on mentality; ability to work with few resources.
9. Flexible leadership and communication style; ability to guide people using plain English.
10. Appreciation of DIY and the handmade way of life.
